Commercial Projects Providing Income for Women in Southern Idlib
To generate income for families whose primary breadwinners were lost due to the war, Ihsan Relief and Development Organization launched a commercial project for hundreds of women responsible for supporting their households in southern Idlib. The initiative aims to help them generate a steady income.
The project targets 260 women, providing €750 per beneficiary who meet the eligibility criteria set by project managers. The organization does not prescribe a specific project but allows women to propose ideas, such as livestock farming, opening a store, or similar businesses, and provides financial support within the allocated budget.
The project covers women who meet the basic criteria, from towns including Kafr Roma, Has, Kafr Nabl, Kafr Aweid, and Al-Fatira, aged 18–55. Its goal is to empower and strengthen community productivity, supporting those most affected and vulnerable during this prolonged conflict, according to Ali Al-Dani, head of the grants team at the organization.
Al-Dani added that applicants must fulfill several conditions: they should be widows or divorced women from targeted areas, or female heads of households whose men are unable to provide due to death or disability. Priority is given to women with experience or ideas related to their proposed project, along with other factors such as literacy or basic education, which is essential.
Additional considerations include the number of family members, whether there is an orphan or child with special needs, and families with infants or children under five.
Fatima Al-Hashem, a beneficiary, stated that these projects are often better than one-time food or cash assistance, providing hope for a sustainable monthly income.
The organization’s team oversees implementation through a specialized team of professionals, including two veterinarians who inspect livestock as part of approved projects. Women also receive a guidance manual on livestock care.
In August, Ihsan Relief and Development implemented a similar project as the first phase, with a third phase expected early next year, according to Al-Dani.
